Welcome to St. Stephen's
We are glad you’re here!
Everyone is welcome to worship at St. Stephen’s regardless of membership or any church affiliation. We are a Reconciling in Christ (RIC) congregation that belongs to the South-Central Synod of the ELCA. Becoming a member of St. Stephen’s is simple and usually involves participating in several educational and orientation sessions and an opportunity to be formally welcomed during a regular worship service. New members are welcomed several times a year.
Members of St. Stephen’s form a joyful, spiritual community dedicated to serving and worshiping God and Jesus Christ.
What We Believe
St. Stephen’s Evangelical Lutheran Church is part of the ELCA (Evangelical Lutheran Church in America). Nearly four million members in nearly 10,000 congregations make up this denomination which professes God’s love and grace for all people.
Lutherans confess the one God in three persons — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — God who made all, God who saves all, and God who makes all things holy. We proclaim Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. In preaching and teaching the ELCA trusts the Gospel as the power of God for the salvation of all who believe. ELCA teaching or theology serves the proclamation and ministry of this faith. It does not have an answer for all questions, not even all religious questions. Teaching or theology prepares all members to be witnesses in speech and in action of God’s rich mercy in Jesus Christ.
We are part of God’s unfolding plan. When we gather for worship, we connect with believers everywhere. When we study the Bible or hear God’s Word in worship, we are drawn more deeply into God’s own saving story.
Whether you’re visiting us once, or hoping to become a member, you’ve probably got a few questions. We may not have an answer for everything, but we’re here to help.
