Wil-Mar Community Center
On the third Saturday of every month, St. Stephen’s has the opportunity to prepare and serve a meal to low-income and homeless people at Wil-Mar Community Center. Volunteers meet at Wil-Mar at 9:30 to prepare and serve the food, clean up afterwards and socialize with the guests. If you are interested in volunteering, contact John Esser or Steve Sullivan.
The Road Home
Four times a year, St. Stephen’s provides volunteers to staff The Road Home at Lake Edge United Church of Christ on Buckeye Road. Volunteers prepare and serve dinner, visit with guests and play with the children, sleep at the church, and send everyone else in the morning by 7:30 a.m.
God’s Work, Our Hands
The first Sunday after Labor Day is usually designated God’s Work, Our Hands Sunday by the ELCA. Members of St. Stephen’s are encouraged to wear their GWOH T-shirts to church and then join in a volunteer activity. These activities have included filling school bags for Lutheran World Relief, visiting seniors at Heritage, setting up beds at The Road Home, and working in the garden at Winnequah School. This is a great way to get involved, get to know people at St. Stephen’s and help out!
St. Stephen’s hosts the Community Garden on the lawn to the south of the Sanctuary. For more information, check out their website: Community Garden
